Etsy!

This was said in the last post but, i will talk about it in more detail here.
We get bored easily so one day we bought yarn to expirement with which turned into us making these really long rope things that we would wrap around like scarves or harnesses. We then had the idea that these could be sold on etsy and we then started making these collar things out of the yarn so we then decided to actually make a store. Yay!
Here we have some pictures we were going to use for the store to advertise the products(hence the less ornate outfits)that for some reason never made it on there and Paula won't disclose the information.

We will be adding more pictures and the collars on here as the week progresses so these aren't the finalized products

All the scarves are between 10 and 12 feet long. The pictures on the store show them more as neckalaces since it is spring and it seems more seasonally appropiate but they can be wrapped tighter to be more scarf like. They are all $15 and we're trying to figure out how to make it so that you can get two for $25.

And here we have some pictures we took in the woods(more like the Everglades). We were slightly horrified when doing these since the chances of getting attacked by some predatory animal were rather high.

Hello children. Lately we've been excessively cohesive without trying to so expect a deluge of outfit posts this week. We've been in the midst of developing a huge project these few months that was officially finalized today, the formal unveiling on the blog will be tomorrow. Is my tension building appreciated?

here's an amalgamation of obnoxious and normal pictures of our outfits.

what we're all wearing:

katie: thrifted vest and shirt, target skirt, target socks that were tights but she's 6 feet tall and those would never actually be the appropiate length, payless shoes(she's wearing heels to be obnoxious) and self made collar

Renata: Target dress, thrifted lace dress underneath, forever 21 belt, payless shoes, bowtie as bow

Me: upside down jacket that has been highly contorted, thrifted vest, socks of mysterious origin, payless shoes, thrifted mesh shirt, thrifted shorts

I'll do some more extensive coverage tomorrow, but we're all itching to post it. The collars(like katie's here, these knit shoulder pads and the pleated one i wore two posts down)will be added tomorrow.

We knit everything and this is basically a product of extreme boredom over winter break and it blossomed into an etsy store!

Technology hates us

So, there wasn't a two month hiatus here or anything...
We had some issue and we kept getting comments in huge amounts in some asian language which had links to sex shops and porn sites and then they started to appear as posts in our draft area. Yeah, inconvenient, but it's all fixed now so homeostasis will return.
Nothing horribly exciting that you won't find out within this week happened in our lives other than school so here's some pictures we took last a few days ago next to the highway(interesting excursion...)

Couture

Couture in general was kind of dissapointing this season but some collections were good, and some were disasters.

Dior

This collection was just bad. The color scheme is derivative of a prom dress catalogue and those gowns were all just so heavy, they felt like a chonga quinces or something. The purple skirt on Vlada is nice and some of the equestrian stuff will probably work in editorials. Overall, i feel like John Galliano's been using the same inspirations for too long and the same setting and same tranny make up. It made for a very boring, uninspired and not particularly aesthetically pleasing collection. It all feels like costumes.

John Paul Gautier

I loved this collection. The weaving techniques are beautifula and the colors are vibrant. I love the styling and the inspiration(mexico) was interpreted so nicely. It's rather literal but it feels young and fresh. This really felt like couture, it was theatrical and a fantasy. It does kind of feel like the same old Gautier collection but he's such a master with couture that it's not a problem. The palm tree leave effects are amazing and i'm curious as to what the material is.

Valentino

Complete disaster. I never liked valentino when it was all about "elegant, refined clothes for the confident women" or whatever with all the red and such, but it was always done well. This feels like a mixture of rodarte, balenciaga, and versace as seen by lindsay lohan and executed with cheap looking fabrics. This doesn't look like couture in the slightest, much less valentino. It was incredibly tacky and amateur.

Givenchy was good but nowhere near as good as lat season. The feather work is beautiful and the colors are perfect, especially that dress on natalia. I loved the jumpsuits despite my vitriolic hatred of jumpsuits. I hated the styling.

Chanel

Chanel might have been my favorite this season. The color pallete was like a crazy space easter egg with all the saccharine pastels and silver lurex and i loved the styling. The collection was futuristic, feminine and perfectly chanel without looking the slightest bit costumey. The techniques employed throughout are perfect and i love the seamless dresses, especially the yellow shift. The jackets and coats were cute perfectly and all the proportions are so elegant. Karl Lagerfeld might not necessarily be my favorite designer but he does know how to carry out Chanel in an innovative light. Everything had so much detail and at first glance, it all seems simple. It's the perfect example of practical couture.

buttons

So couture was pretty much awful and i might review the collections later on in the week since i'm in a rush now (salvation army outing). Chanel was nice even if there was those wierd cullote suits and dior looked like a tranny quinces and valentino was a travesty that i do not want to discuss, and i never even liked the "refined, elegant woman" valentino.
I will definitley review rick owens and cdg menswear since they were actually good. Especially rick, i definitley need to crocodile and fur in my life (i'm being a bad vegetarian).
Anyways, salvation army last week brought some lovely things into my life. The jacket i'm wearing here is particularly eventful and has all kinds of button options. I'm ejoying the ann demeulemeester f/w 09 vibe coming from it but the sleeves kind of scare me. I think i'll just make it a vest or something. I also got a very exciting striped vest that has become a vest with tails which will make its appearance on the blog soon as well as this dress with pleats that now is a vest thing with tails.

This weather has seriously been an impediment on our outfits. Lately, it has been warming up and the iguanas are no longer in comas on the grass. Here's what we wore on Friday. We have a very exciting project that has been actualized that you shall all know about at some point this week...

Hi everyone! I hope everyone is having a lovely day. Well I'd like to comment on this weather we've been having. Living in Florida no one is really used to this so the second it got cold we were all "dear me, now what" And some people claim the sole cause is the tipping of the Earth's axis, but I have a feeling it also has something to do with global warming. Okay sooo before I start ranting, here is what we wore.

Katie wore that perfect dress from the Rodarte for Target collection, Target leggings, thrifted cardigan, and a scarf she received as a gift.

New Year = New Beginnings

Happy holidays everyone!
Well I think I should begin with an explanation of our three month hiatus...
(lists make me feel productive and proffesional)
a) Paula's camera had some sort of meltdown and a new one wasn't accquired until last week but none of us were really here so today was our first opportunity for posting
b) School went insane and decided that it's ok to assign a research paper, double book report(that makes me think of elementary school0, millions of essays, and the french revolution all within the same month
It was pretty unfortunate that this happened because we actually had a large amount of pictures to post that we never got around to. We do however have a rather exciting photoshoot planned which should be up within this month and we have another interesting plan pertaining to the blog which should be cemented sometime in the next two weeks. Renata also got a camera so this allows for more regular outfit posts since we kind of had to wait 'till the weekends to do outfit posts before...

This is what we wore today(first time that it's been below 50 degrees all winter!)

I was wearing a thrifted blazer that for some reson appears to have major shoulder pads in this picture but it really doesn't have any, two scarves that i knitted that have been intertwined, a poncho that i draped from forever21(it was really scary when i saw them, but they were $6 and some cdg a/w 09 could have come from them)black pants from zara, DIYed arm warmers(if that really sufficed as a DIY) and gloves from hot topic

Fashion week!

Well, fashion week again! I'm not sure about how i feel about the collections this season, so few were actually good so i'll only write about those but Margiela almost made me cry. It wasn't even cheeky in the margiela usually is, it was just kind of unrefined a hipstery, i'm really hoping Martin Margiela is no longer designing for the label. Yohji Yamamoto was also incredibly disspainting. I just feel like he wanted to make money so he threw in some classic yohji stuff and some commercial stuff and added holes in it just to keep the deconstruction aspect. I'm mentioning Balmain only because this was truley hideous and not even worth showing at fashion week. The clothes lack substance entirely.

Rodarte

The Mulleavy girls present another collection filled with wonderful textures. They continue to refine their collaging technique and this time it returns more deconstructed than ever with plaids and florals thrown into the mix. I love that they have a signature that they use and they are choosing to really refine, this time is their best attempt. The way the have used deconstruction and married all different textiles together creature this amazing menagerie of textures that i would love to see in person. I really don't understand the negative criticism for these girls when people are fawning over Decarnin's shows.

Marc Jacobs

I have mixed feelings about this show, I'll start with it's positive qualities. I liked the color palette, especially after last seasons 80s thing. I think the pants look interesting and the proportions are okay. What i don't like is how Comme des Garcons it is. It's not even like it's Comme des Garcons for any good reasons, Marc just showed ruffles and paired them awkwardly. A CdG show goes beyond ruffles and awkwards proportions, Marc's influences are nowhere near similar and this totally lacks the whit that's always present in Rei's collections, and its just too pretty/feminine. Basically its okay and is too CdG for bad reasons.

London isn't really worth writing about. Luella was eons better than last season but it just lacked the cheek and over the top aspect that characterizes her work. In Milan, Jil Sander left me confused, it was a bit too rustic for me to like it but the frayed edges were nice

Gareth Pugh

Another mixed feelings show, once again i'll start off with what i liked. The pants where cool and i see them selling well and being integrated into peoples wardrobes with great ease. I also liked his venture into this more romantic side of the label and the the construction and materials of the garments are bettwer than ever. I also liked the headpieces, even if they were a bit too Mcqueen for Gareth's own good. Once more, the collection felt too Rick Owens with the cuts of some the coats and the ideas were just not there. While i have never considered Gareth the go to designer for intellectual fashion, he generally has some kind of concept behind his clothes that give them some extra punch (s/s 09), but this season it just wasn't there. Either he was trepidatious about going into this new direction or he just wanted to make retail friendly clothes. It also lacked that theatrical aspect that made people pay attention to Gareth to begin with. This really does make me fear that all the hype he had is soon going to die out and he is no longer going to be relevant. The menswear is not even worth writing about, it was basically womenswear.

Rick Owens

Rick Owens has been refining his aesthetic for season much like the Mulleavy sisters. This season, it takes on this slightly minimalist approach and it really feels completely fresh. Everyone has been taking a stab at the Rick Owens aesthetic and this time, he does something different with it that i was not expecting. This might be my favorite show this season, the play with volume is amazing and creates some amazing lines. I also love this lighter color palette that Rick has been exploring these past two seasons and the accessories are perfect for the show. Has anyone else noticed how Freja keeps getting the best looks at all the collections?

Comme des Garcons

This is my other candidate for favorite show of the season. When everyone goes shoulder pad crazy, Rei pokes fun at the fashion industry by showing us this wonderful collage collection. The construction of those jackets/tops looks incredible, something i must see in person. I really love how she just made jackets out of cut up shoulder pads. I also love the section of the show with all the nude dresses paired with the harnesses, i love the juxtaposition of the two elements and the construction of the dresses looks so interesting. I did indeed go through the Comme des Garcons effect with this collection, every time i see this collection i seem to love it more and more and this basically happens with every single one of her shows. I love it when Rei shows a sense of humor, it's good to know she's not taking herself to seriously, her brand is named "like some boys" after all. My only criticism is that this show wasn't quite the emotional experience last season was, but that might have been her best show since 2000 in that aspect so i'm not bothered by it.

I'll write about Victor and Rolf, Ann Demeulemeester, and Mqueen at the end of the week since i have AP euro awaiting me (that class is killing us)
