Photoshoot

As you might know, we did a photoshoot a while back where we used a giant egg which we made. We later thought it would be a nice compliment to make a giant bird nest. We made this bird nest but, my mom threw it away so we had to make another one which hindered our ability to get around doing this photshoot.
It was a lot of fun to do this and we sort of brought our entire closets over to Katie's house and dumped it in her room and played around with some outfit.
Everything knit is coming from the etsy store(the collars and shoulder pieces aren't up yet) and so are the white hair clips.
There's quite a lot of them, but they're hopefully aesthetically pleasing enough to keep you interested.
I'm too lazy to write out what we're wearing because everything has too many layers and there's just too much clothes. Assume everything store bought is H&M, target or forever21. Anything else is thrifted or DIYd.
I find it amusing that we did this in a very public area. The passerbys were very confused.

First of all, I think that what you guys are doing is great! You guys are really creative, and I admire how you guys are willing to express yourselves the way you do. I'm also digging the scarves; I'm thinking about buying and/or knitting myself one, I really love them :)

But, there's a couple of things that have been frustrating me, because I think you guys have a lot of potential...

[Part 2 of 2]

1. These so called "dramatic" poses bother me. Weired, awkward poses do not make photos "artsy." It just makes them weird and awkward. If you are trying to say something through photography, try finding simpler, more natural and graceful ways of channeling your message.

2. Your outfits.... I totally like your style, and I think it's great, but sometimes, it just comes out in a "trying-to-hard" vibe. IT sometimes looks like you woke up thinking, "What can I wear that will look like I'm into avant-garde fashion?" Maybe toning it down a bit would be good...

But, once again, I think that you guys are doing a great job, and I truly enjoy reading your blog :) I really hope that you will see this little rant of mine, not as an insult, but as "constructive criticism," (I never liked that term, but I think it applies..). I really hope the best for you guys, and I'm rooting for you :)

True and Always,
Lucy

to lucy,
We thank you for your input but the "dramatic poses" were meant sarcastically, we did it to bother Paula when she was gone and thought they were funny so we uploaded them.
I've never liked this whole "effortless chic" nonsense. If i feel like wearing a jacket upside down and pants under shorts, the fact that it might look "too busy" won't stop me. Part of fashion's appeal is the idea that your always part of this fantasy in your everday life and I don't want to have to limit myself to that.
thank you though!

Arty, sarcastic, whatever, I could not have done something this creative and interesting as a teenager, and I couldn't do it now. Personally I think you are on the right track. Keep creating!

well this one isn't meant to be sarcastic, this one is supposed to look "artsy" but I don't phrasing it that way. We just sort of know what poses work in editorials and try(fail possibly?)to emulate them. We would be lieing if we were to say that we don't look through all the vogues obsessively, we have a pretty large wealth of editorial knowledge. But thank you! we did try.

Wow, thank you for taking time to read my little comment :) I do agree that the whole "effortless chic" thing is kinda stupid. I can see where you're coming from, with the editorial-type poses though. My favorite pictures from the post are the fifth, the sixth, and the ninth. I especially love the angle in the ninth picture. I think you guys are headed toward the right direction, and I hope to keep seeing great things from you.

True and Always,
Lucy

Ahahahha. I like it. I really do. The first picture looks kinda like the Alberta Ferretti ads bouncing around magazines right now.

You guys always have the coolest photo shoots, haha.

PS Thank you so much for the package! I got it in the mail today and I just posted about it. I'd totally forgotten that we were doing an exchange. Once school gets out, I'll work out something to send you. I'm really awful at making wearable things, so it might be some photos and a letter or something.

Looking at your pics is like looking at a well-conceptualized magazine editorial. I love the creativity. Great work! xoxo

Very cool shoot! I like the addition of the see-through chiffon/gauze material and I do like some of the dramatic poses. To the person who thought the looks were overly 'trying-too-hard', all I can say is that the perception is subjective as well. I see a lot more contrived looks from people attempting to look low-key and effortless than I do from those seeking to push the envelope a little. Fashion is about having fun and self-expression and I think you're doing a great job.
